This type of window is often used in more traditional or listed buildings as well as properties that fall within conservation areas. When in the closed position, the opening window casements finish flush with the outside face of the window frame. The areas of a flush casement window that don’t open are usually fitted with a dummy fixed casement which then provides matching glass sight lines and design symmetry commonly found in older properties.

More often than not, these windows are fitted in more modern properties. When in the closed position, the opening window casements sit proud of and overlap the outside face of the window frame. The areas of a stormproof casement window that don’t open are usually direct glazed into the frame but a dummy fixed stormproof casement can be fitted to improve design symmetry and provide matching glass sight lines if desired.

This traditionally constructed type of sliding sash window is present in many Georgian and Victorian properties which are often listed or fall within conservation areas. The weight of each window sash is counterbalanced by solid lead weights attached with sash cords that run over a pulley fixed to the top of the frame. The lead weights travel up and down, hidden inside the hollow box frame as the window sash slides open or closed vertically.

A simpler, modern alternative to the box sliding sash, these windows have a solid outer frame and the sashes are counterbalanced with pre-tensioned heavy duty springs. An ideal cost effective solution giving a period look to your property, providing you don’t have any local authority restrictions

As the name suggests, this design of window is most commonly found in period properties around the Yorkshire region, however they can also often be seen in listed buildings and properties within the conservation areas of East Anglia. Also known as a horizontal sliding sash window, they incorporate a mechanism that allows the sashes to slide from side to side. Various configurations can be made using any number of fixed or sliding sashes, sliding to one or both sides.

Ideally suited to window openings of sash window proportions, these are essentially a casement window with a top hung stormproof opening casement fitted above a flush casement. The stormproof casement can have decorative shaped horns to give an even closer resemblance to a traditional vertical sliding sash.
