Why choose wood instead of uPVC?

Design & Aesthetics

  • Timber – Available in an endless variation of colours and can be tailored to a traditional or contemporary style with the design of moulding, section sizes and the vast array of ironmongery available.
  • Plastic – Although practical and consistent, colour choices are very limited and provide little customisation options.

Energy Efficiency

  • Timber Windows & Doors – Timber is a naturally insulating and energy efficient material and helps to retain the heat inside the building, offering increased thermal efficiency over uPVC alternatives.

Sustainable & Environmentally Friendly

  • Timber – Timber emits less CO2 during the manufacturing process and is also carbon neutral, fully recyclable and biodegradable at the end of their useful life (cradle to grave approach). Sustainably sourced timber and replanting management also helps to minimise the negative environmental impact.
  • Plastic – In contrast, uPVC has a significant negative impact on the environment. Recycling is much more limited and plastic products in general are hugely harmful to the environment, taking much longer to biodegrade in landfill.

Versatile & Adaptable

  • Timber – To change the look of timber windows & doors, they can simply be repainted using on-trend colours. This gives you the ability to refresh the aesthetic as often as you like, keeping the windows & doors looking fresh and well-maintained for many years.
  • Plastic – It is not possible to repaint uPVC windows, which means the colour and aesthetic cannot be altered or updated. To do so would mean replacing the full window or door – a vastly more expensive task.

Durability Guaranteed

  • In recent years, huge developments in coating solutions have been made to improve the performance and durability of coatings for timber windows & doors with factory-finished Accoya timber windows & doors not needing to be re-coated for up to 8 years after installation.

Value for Money

  • Timber – New or replacement timber windows & doors are an important long-term investment. They add value to a home, save on fuel bills, reduce condensation, reduce noise and minimise maintenance. While the initial purchase price may be higher, they can last twice as long as uPVC alternatives.
  • Plastic – uPVC windows & doors may have a lower initial purchase cost, but over the product lifetime – considering factors such as aesthetics, efficiency, sustainability and maintenance – they are generally more expensive than timber alternatives.

Compliance with Regulations

All external windows and door sets are CE marked (required by law since July 2013) which shows that the product supplied complies with the requirements of the relevant harmonised European standard. In addition, as a FENSA registered company, you can be sure that the design and installation of your replacement windows and doors will meet all of the current Building Regulations. We are also members of the Consumer Protection Association (CPA) allowing us to provide 10 year insurance backed guarantees too.
